Scotrail Tour 1989 Day 3: 14th February 1989

Back in 1989 the fiancé, now wife, and I decided that we'd like to travel up to and around Scotland by train. This was before the days when she had Staff Travel Passes. While on the trip we'd stop off in Aviemore to see a friend of mine that I used to work with at Waterloo who now lived in Aviemore. And so the trip began ...

Valentines day started with breakfast in Duncan's Hotel ... say no more! Then it was a casual stroll to Queen Street station. We'd discussed going on a direct train from Queen Street to Inverness but decided against it choosing a more circuitous route instead.

1O14 09:30 Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh 47710.

Once at Edinburgh we bought some food for the next leg of our trip.

1A47 12:45 Edinburgh to Aberdeen 47642.

Again this was a nice trip and a couple more class 26s for sight (If only I could find my original "spotting" books but alas I think they have been consigned to the bin many moons ago).

We had a 20 minute connection at Aberdeen and then the train caught a slight delay. It was only five minutes but enough to cause a bit of concern. We arrived in at Aberdeen at 15:28 instead of 15:25.

1H33 15:45 Aberdeen to Inverness 47641.

The trip from Aberdeen was good and on time. Just at Keith station was a class 47 in the sidings and it'd hit a downed tree the day before. We arrived into Inverness on time at 18:12. After getting a taxi to our B&B we went off in search of food.
