Scotrail Tour 1989 Day 5: 16th February 1989

Back in 1989 the fiancé, now wife, and I decided that we'd like to travel up to and around Scotland by train. This was before the days when she had Staff Travel Passes. While on the trip we'd stop off in Aviemore to see a friend of mine that I used to work with at Waterloo who now lived in Aviemore. And so the trip began ...

After a lovely breakfast we walked down to the station and popped in to the Travel Centre to pick a timetable for Aviemore and beyond. By the time we came out to have a look at what was on the platform and in the depot there was about an inch of snow ... everywhere!

On to the bus we got in time for the train

2H83 10:10 Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh 37415.

There were some hills with snow on them but in general it was a lovely trip and is very much one of my favourites. At Kyle I spent a little while taking a few photos then we headed to a pub for a excellent burger. I think the pub was The Islander Bar. We jumped the ferry over to Kyleakin. We didn't stay long but vowed to come back.

2H84 17:30 Kyle of Lochalsh to Dingwall 37417.

Arriving back in Inverness at 20:00 saw us about ready for bed.
