Diesels To Devon: Saturday 18th June 2022

With the family all having their own things to do I decided to clear off a bit of track and hopefully clear a few class 159s into the barging. Initially my plan was to go to Clapham Junction then stop at Woking and Basingstoke before going to Romsey. The Romsey DMUs were to be class 158s and they were ones I'd already cleared. That prompted me to come up with plan B. That involved stopping at Basingstoke and Salisbury then on the Exeter St David's.

I'll do the haulage first.

Plan B it was then 2W08 South Croydon to Victoria 377209, 377211 as far as Clapham Junction.

1L17 Waterloo to Exeter St David's 159020, 159101 (101 a winner and cleared for 5 miles). Next stop, Basingstoke.

Next up was 159106 (winner and cleared for 5 miles) on 1V19 Waterloo to Frome.

At Salisbury it was still bright and sunny and there were quite a lot of people out. After establishing that a bottle of water was almost £3 I decided to wait until I got to Exeter. Then came the dreaded announcement that the 10:47 (1L21 Waterloo to Exeter St David's) was full and standing from Basingstoke. How? It was going to be a 6 car. 159007, 159012 pulled in and it wasn't anywhere near as bad.

Having spent a lovely couple of hours at St David's it was time to head back. 1L56 Exeter St David's to Waterloo formed of 159009, 159022 (both winners and cleared for 5 miles) took me back to Clapham Junction.

Over to platform 15 for 2W50 Victoria to South Croydon 377203, 377131 doing the honours.

Great day.

Not bad for day out.
