Scotland 2023 Day 2: 22nd March 2023

Bold = Haulage, Red = Winner, All others are sightings.

After stashing our suitcase into the Left luggage at Central station we headed off to Wetherspoons for a good breakfast.
The wife wanted to go off to Loch Lommond but I had already planned my trains out. My main target was Weymss Bay. It's been one of those stations I have been wanting to visit for many years and finally I'd get the chance.
1W35 Glasgow Central to Weymss Bay (Glasgow Central to Weymss Bay) 385042 (winner and cleared for 5 miles) [30m 65ch].

What can I say about Weymss Bay apart from WOW. It is one of those stations that you look at in photos and think that's lovely but when you are theye you realise how great it really is. The whole station is curves and sweeping lines. and is in my view one of the best station in mainland UK.
Firstly I walked around taking some wide angle photos wtih my Canon EOS 7D and a nice panorama with my phone camera. Inside the station was a calmness but once I got outside the wind was very strong and was whipping up waves a lot. The main building experior is nice at Weymss Bay and the driving on to the ferry appears to be easy.
Back inside I walked down the curved ramp towards the ferry terminal. Again plenty of photos taken looking for the artistic look (not always achieved). Back in the main booking hall I wandered up the platform taking photos of course. Only Platform 2 is in use now. Platform 1 seems to be disused with rusted rails. Other platforms are now trackless and turned in to parking.

I visited the bookshop of the 'Friends of Weymess Bay' and bough some postcards and an interesting looking book on the history of the station. Then into the station cafe for a snack as the wife and I had agreed on a meal later.

1W30 Weymss Bay to Glasgow Central (Weymess Bay to Port Glasgow) 320301 (Winner and cleared for 5 miles) [10m 40ch]
Both on the way to and from Weymss Bay I managed to use the 7Ds fast shutter and 8fps to get a photos (or ten) of IBM station. The station was mothballed in December 2018.
Port Glasgow station is currently under rebuilding and isn't in the best of health. The Glasgow end of the station gives a good photo op of the trains coming and going on a curve and under the bridge. I didn't venture up the other end due to the building works.
My next train was on time and was 1G05 Glasgow Central to Gourock (Port Glasgow to Gourock) 320401 (Winner and cleared for 5 miles) [5m 67ch] On the way down it picked up a minute or two delay which threatened my connection but it rallied and I made my three minute connection. Sadly very little time at Gorock to take photos or look around the station.
Next up was 2G42 Gourock to Glasgow Central (Gourock to Paisley Gilmore Street) 380010 (Winner and cleared for 5 mines) [18m 75ch]. I made teh decision (after checking real times trains) to jump off at Paisley Gilmore Street. It is an okay walk from Gilmore Street to Paisley Canal.

Paisley Canal station is a single platform affair with a small shelter. There appears to be a couple of entrances from the side and one from the main street down some stairs.
I made the train with time to spare 2D30 Paisley Canal to Glasgow Central (Paisley Canal to Glasgow Central) 380009 (Winner and cleared for 5 miles) [7m 63ch].
Realising the time and checking what time the wife would be back in Glasgow I quickly logged in to Real Time Trains and saw an oppotunity.

At Glasgow Central it was quck walk around to catch 2N14 Glasg ow Central to Neilston (Glasgow Central to Neilston) 380106 (Winner and cleared for 5 miles) [11m 18ch]. Neilston is a two platform station and a terminus. The train then heads out of the station to a turn back siding then back in the other other platform. Back in to Central on the same unit.

We stayed at the Premier Inn Glasgow City Centre (George Square) which is a short walk to Queen Street station.
187 George Street, Glasgow, G1 1YU. I can recommend it. It's there we ate that night and had breakfast too.
On to Day 3.
