I have been after my final class 395 for haulage for some time now. It always seemed to be on diagrams that evaded me at weekends or impossible after work on a Friday. It seemed likely to evade me permanently until today.
I had to meet the wife in London as she had been out to meet a friend up north so I said I'd meet her at Kings Cross when her train arrived. I half hearted search of the diagrams for the 717s, 387s yeilded nothing worth going for so I looked at the 395s.
BINGO!!!!!
395012 was working a service that would allow me to get back before the wif's train got to Kings Cross.
Out of work, get home, changed and back out.

Of course it was a bit late therefore I missed the initial train I wanted to get from Croydon.
9J40 East Croydon to St Pancras International 700001 [13m 40ch].
Then a casual walk up to the Southeastern platforms whilst working out which platform my train would go from. Passing through the brrier I headed up platform 12 to be able to get a photo of the unit arriving. I was a little apprehensive as the unit was coming out of a depot for this diagram and there was a possibility of it being swapped last mimute.
I need not have worried.

I had a short wait at Ebbsfleet for the train back.

Back at St Pancras I went dowen and managed to get a table in the 'Spoon - THe Barrel Vault and waited for the wife to arrive.
Following her arrival we ate and I indulged in a pint of cider (well it'd be rude not to) then headed back homewards.
