Reading through the limited information on wikipedia about Bordesley Railway station it seems there is a very limited service. It states Since May 2007, the station has been served by a single weekly parliamentary train in one direction only. Currently this is the 13:47 train from Whitlocks End to Kidderminster which calls at Bordesley at 14:08 on Saturdays only..
Except this Saturday (14/12/2024) Birmingham City were at home to Bristol Rovers. There is a bit of a problem though.
West Midlands trains tweeted Services will not be running FROM B'ham to Bordesley BEFORE the match, and TO B'ham from Bordesley AFTER the match.
If travelling to/from B'ham please use alternative transport
An alarm going off at Stupid O'Clock so I could head out and catch my first train.
Rather than get the bus in to Croydonn I walked. It was dark and chilly but to be honest it was nice to have a bit of time as I walked listening to the Birds and watch the foxes run around.
9R02 East Croydon to St PAncras International 700031 non winner [13m 40ch].
What should have been a nice quiet trip up wasn't as nice! A woman with a Dachshund made it a rather nisy trip. Every person that passed, every time the doors opened or closed the dog barked and barked and barked. It was no better when everyone got off at St Pancras the blooming thing barked all they way from platform to concourse ... Pass the paracetamol!
Greggs came to my rescue ay St Pancras with a nice bacon roll and brown sauce, then I had a nice walk along to Euston from the Next train.
9G04 Euton to Birmingham New Street 390118 non winner [112m 44ch].
A nice casual walk through Birmingham to Station allowed me to catch my next trains. I had intended to just head to Moor Street station but I have never seen the outside of Snow Hill station. So I toko a walk along to there insead. I can honestly say that the station is pretty dull.
Getting on to the platform I caught a train down to Moor Street.
2S21 Birmingham Snow Hill to Birmingham Moor Street 172005 winner [0m 50ch].
I do love Moor Street Station. It captures the old steam days (although someone described it as being a Disney Station).
2D27 Birmingham Moor Street to Stratford-Upon-Avon (Via Claverdon) 172008, 172337 Winners [25m 36ch].
Despite the earlier grey skies the trip to Stratford was quite sunny.
At Stratford I had plenty of time to walk into town and have a breakfast. I'd like to NOT recommend the Golden Bee (Wetherspoons). Apart from being a mess, the tables were sticky or wet, hardly any seats at tables and the order was wrong having taken over 30 minutes to arrive. Add in to that the less than helpful staff!
Stratford-Upon-Avon station is not bad. It has the Brown and Cream paintwork like Moor Street. The new accessable bridge blends in but does detract from the station overall. Never the less it is nice. My next train wouldtake me to the main target of the day - Bordesley Station.
2K58 Stratford Upon Avon to Bordesley 172342 non winner [23m 42ch].
Bordesley station is about the most basic station you'll ever visit. A station review will appear here > Bordesley
After a chat with a couple of guys on the platform I headed back on the next train to Moor Street.
2V60 Bordesley to Birmingham Moor Street 172214, 172335 one winner and one non winner [0m 38ch
Once of the train at Moor street there was a lovely surprise of 7027 'Clun Castle' on the stops with 47773 on the London end. It was the 'Polar Express' run by Vintage Trains. Obviously I took a couple of photos.
Then over to plarform 3 and my train back to London.
1H54 Birmingham Moor Street to Marylebone 68011 Winner [111m 54ch].
The former business club carriage was very comfortable and if I wasn't writing this web page then I think I could have fallen asleep!
Once back in the capital I headed down to the underground.
Maylebone to Oxford Circus (Bakerloo) 3236.
Oxford Circus to Victoria (Victoria) 11091
At Victoria I managed to navigate the crowds and catch the train home.
