Back in April the wife and did our trip to South Wales and this included Tenby. On the day it was drizzly and overcasst at the ime I did wonder why e didn't just carry on to Pembroke but we didn't. That left Tenby to Pembroke Dock needed.
THe Summer timetable has a diect train from Paddington to Pembroke Dock and back) so it was n oppotunity not to miss. Mind you I still have Milford Haven and Fishguard to do!
Up at 05:00 and leave the house to get to Croydon for the first trin of the day.
9S00 East Croydon to Farringdon 700134 non winner [12m 11ch]
A quiet trip up o London and a reasonable tchange to get the Elizabeth Line.
9H32 Farringdon to Paddington 345048 non winner [3m 44ch]
I had just over an hour to kill as I needed something to eat and grab some water. THe Sleeper was in so I got the vehicle numbers and the two locos (57301 and 57312 if you're interested) While looking for anything else I may need in pulls a railtour. 47812 brought in the stock with the LMS Stanier Black 5 number 45212 on the othe end (Consist: /m3340, 3326, 99712, E3278, M3314, M3390, 6724, M6176, M9526, 335508). This was 1Z25 Paddington to Minehead SVR.
My plastform was locted via Traksy and I headed off to board my train.
1B05 Paddington to Cardiff 800031, 800020 non winners [145m 11ch]
Those with a keen eye will note I didn not catch the direct train. I thought it would be nice to break up the journey and have an hour at Cardiff Central. See if I could see any of the new units down there.
I did manage to see a few of the new cl. 756 units. 67010 made an appearence from Manchester. Then it was time for the next leg of the trip.
1B07 Cardiff Central to Swansea 800033, 800014 non winners [45m 56ch]
1B07 Swansea to Pembroke Dock 800014 non winner [115m 14ch]
Due to people near the line when we left Cardiff the trains slowed and we arrived in to Swansea 10 minutes late and departed that late too. Luckily we made up time and by the tie we arrived in to Pembroke Dock we were on time.
Pembroke Dock station once had two platforms but the line was singled between it and Whitland. Only Tenby now has a passing loop. Transport for Wales have allowed Pembroke Dock station to deteriorate. On my visit the platform was covered in bird feaces and there was a awful smell of urine purmutating throughout the station. I did send a message to TfW to get it cleaned up. For those arriving there needing food, there is a KFC and a McDonalds close by (10 minute walk). There are three big stores close by:Lidl, Asda and Tescos. After eating I headed back to the station. A few photographs and I was ready to board. The train crew release the doors at 14:58 for the 15:02 departure.
1L30 Pembroke Dock to Swansea 800014 non winner [83m 1ch]
We would pick up another 5 car at Swansea. At Tenby we had to wait for the Pembroke bound train which of course was late and my trin left 21 minutes late from Tenby.
On arrival at Swansea we were all turfed of the train. 800014 was terminated due to the delays sso I had to cross over and catch two new units.
1L30 Seansea to Paddington 800030, 800021 non winners [190m 67ch]
THe train left 13 minutes late. It just increasingly late it arrived in to Padding 30 minutes late. This gave me plenty of time to plot another trip ut. Can I do Milford Haven and back in a day? Yep! Can I do Fishguard Harbour and back in a day? Yes!
Looking at my calendar we have a lot of things booked in with the family over the next month or two.
