A month after our trip to Bath and my realisation that there was something pretty wrong with my heath, the wife and I needed to get out and about. We had a chat and I said I'd never done the harbour arm at Folkestone and she had never beein to Folkestone. So off we went.
We started locally.
2O19 Selhurst to East Croydon 377704 non winner [0m 77ch]
We gave ourselves plenty of time between trains so as to not make me feel worse. Crossing up and over the ramps was a little tiring.
9R16 East Croydon to St Pancras International 700105 non winner [13m 40ch]
We sat at Greggs and ate something so I could take meds and then headed upstairs to the Southeastern platforms and our next train. I do like the class 395s and they do get a fair speed on.
1L22 St Pancras International to Folkestone 395012, 395010 non winners [69m 74ch].
Folkestone as a town has seen better days. It's has all your usual high street shops. The town a lot of independant shops including a lovely sweet shop. almost all the shops along 'The Old High Street' have little blue plaques that tell you brief histories of the shops. A really lovely touch. I've made a Flickr Album of the Harbour Arm and old railway line. Honestly it is well worth a trip to see how the old station has been transformed. Beyond the station the harbour arm extends and on it are six old railway wagons. Three belong to a seaford resturant and the other three belong to Cavells Mediterranean Lounge OMG What an amazing meal we had. The food was 10/10, the staff 10/10 the view from the wagons was lovely. Both the wife and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Carvells. A Tip - Get there for 12:0 as they don't take bookings but they do get busy.
We took a walk up to the end of the harbour wall but the wind was causing me breathing distress so weheaded back. Back along 'The Old High Street' which was up hill. It seem t take hours but I don't think it was. We did divert in to the Wetherspoons (her idea this time) called THe Samuel Peto we only had the one drink.
Back at the station we decided to take the train up to London Bridge instead of St Pancras.
2W24 Folkestone Central to London Bridge 375827, 375709 one winner [68m 04ch].
At London Bridge we took th eeasy option and caught a local train back.
2J55 London Bridge to Selhurst 377310, 377314 non winner [11m 02ch].
All in all a good day despite the health restrictions.
