A Little Bit of GA : 18th April 2026

It was nice weather the wife and daughter wanted to go to Brighton so I went elsewhere. I cannot go to Brighton. I hate it there especially in the nice weather and at weekends. I've been wanting to clear the last remaining regular passenger line of Greater Anglia for a while now so this was really the opportunity.
I took a bus in to Croydon to avoid a walk.
9S02 East Croydon to Finsbury Park 700120 non winner [15m 75ch].
Arriving into Finsbury Park it is literally the other side of the island platform for the local ex Moorgate services. I waited for the Stevenage train whilst watching a Freight train (66733) and a rail tour (57305 working 1Z31 Kings Cross to Webtech Doncaster) pass through. Then in pulled my train.
2F08 Finsbury Park to Hertford North 717016 non winner [17m 07ch].

A pleasant little trip that revealed that there is not a lot of interesting things at the station or in the station itself. It was already starting to warm up weather wise so I walked along the main road to Hertford East. Now that is a lovely looking station.
The current station was opened in February 1888. It has just the two platforms but it does appear that only platform 1 is used off peak and weekends.
2O15 Hertford East to Broxbourne 720536 winner [7m 02ch].
A check revealed that there are no Wetherspoons in Broxbourne but there is one in Hoddesdon (The Star) It is a lovely 25 minute walk (well more 30 for me at that time) along the New River Path.
Hoddesdon is a rather affluent area and looking at the houses on sale they WAYYYY out of my price range.
After a breakfast (no cider) I took a casual walk back. There seemed to be a sort of local market on and I ended up buying some fudge for the family. Little did I know that on the Sussex Coast the family had the same idea!!
Broxbourne station is not the original buildings that were there in 1841. THe current building were built in 1959 and for some reason are Grade II listed! When it comes to trains I saw over 10 trains either stopping or passing through in my 40 minute wait for the train back to Hertford East.
2O24 Broxbourne to Hertford East 720569 winner [7m 02ch].
At Hertford East a couple more photos before heading through town to the Wetherspoons pub 'The Six Templars'. Well it was a hot day and I needed to keep Hydrated.
A nice walk back to Herford North. station. It is a more modern looking station than the East and it is raised on an embankment.
2F24 Hertford North to Finsbury Park 717011 winner [17m 07ch].
The train towards London was quite busy as there was some events on in London and at Finsbury Park I crossed the island platform and caught
9J35 Finsbury Park to East Croydon 700114 non winner [13m 40ch].
Once back in Croydon I walked home.
