As our Wedding anniversary rolled round we decided to go to Norwich for the night. Okay not the most exotic but the wife and I have changed trains there many times but never seen the city. We checked out the costs and locations of the various hotels and the Travelodge Norwich Central Riverside was the best option for us. See the link for a review.
We started early from home and by chance was able to catch an earlier than planned train from Croydon

We didn't have any luggage only our rucksacks as we were only having one night away. At Farringdon we went down the long escalator to the Elizabeth Line and out next train.

It's not until you see the mileage you realise how short of a distance it is between the two stations but on surface level its a longer walk.
At Liverpool street the original plan was to catch the 07:30 but a short queue in Greggs allowed us to catch the 07:00

With the wife's back issues the 745's do give her more comfort. They are definitely one of the better units of this generations.
In to Norwich on time (08:47) and we decided to take a walk around town before offloading the contents of our rucksacks (well Check in wasn't until 12:00). We passed the Anglia Television building which caused us both to say "And live from Norwich, it's the quiz of the week" … Well you have to be of a certain generation to get that phrase! Yes we're old!
We headed out to Norwich Cathedral. It is worth a visit especially if you see the resident cat.

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is a decent walk from the other one and very nice.
We decided to take a look at Plantation Garden. It was lovely to walk in the quiet and relaxing garden. There is a large fountain there and because it was do hot we stood next to it and was splashed by the cold water. Very cooling. Our clothes dried quite quickly. Do give the gardens a visit.
We did have a late lunch in the Rivolo Lounge and of course a pint in the 'Spoons nearby before heading back late to the hotel.
While we were at the hotel we sort of realised there wasn't anything further we wanted to do in Norwich so a plan formulated.
