Whitby: 10th July 2026

Sitting around on the Sunday prior to this trip the topic of a day out came up and we unanimously decided on a day trip to Whitby. As I already had a template of times built it was easy to just check and update the times. The only things that needed careful checking was the bus times.

Up really early and a bus in to Croydon for the first train of the day.
9R02 East Croydon to St Pancras International 700120 non winner [13m 40ch].
We dispensed with Greggs and just went straight over to Kings Cross and we all got a Pastry and a bottle of drink. Then straight on to the platform for
1S04 Kings Cross to York 801218 non winner [188m 40ch].
Both the wife and daughter disappeared in to headphones shortly after departure whick allowed me to 'Spot trains to my heart delaight on route.
No delays meant we had a decent amount of time at York for the daughter to visit WH Smiths, the wife to powder her nose and me to have a general nosey around the station like I always do. We then walked up to platform 4 to catch our train.
1P15 York to Scarborough 185147 non winner [42m 08ch].

With the class 185 fleet numbering 51 units how on earth do I seem to get non winners? LOL.
Usually there is only the X93 bus to Whitby but this time there is also the X94 bus. This was brilliant as it leaft 30 mins ealier and we arrived in to Whitby at 11:20.

On arrival in Whitby we did our usual shop in Bothams, Lunch in Royal Fisheries and all the other shops we usually frequent. Then after some drinks in Pescado Lounge and the then on to the bus back to Scarborough. We had a little time at scarborough so the wife went and got some refresments for the train.
185136 non winner [42m 06ch].
On the approaches to York we stopped with what felt like an emgergency brake application. Then it was announced there were traspassers on the line. On Scarborough Bridge over the River Ouse were two people hanging off the briger over the water with the poilce and fire brigade in attendance. The train got the ok to go over the bridge and we arrived in to York with only 3 minutes of delay. we went to Sainsburys and got some snack for the train and waited for our train to London.
1E24 York to Kings Cross 801201 non winner [188m 40ch].
The journey was going pretty well until the Hitchin area were we picked up delays and ended up 14 minutes late in to Kings Cross.
Kings Cross had a lot of people on the concourse so it took a bit of time to get over to St Pancras.
9R59 St Pancras Internatonal to East Croydon 700037 non winner [13m 40ch.
followed by
2M73 East Croydon to Selhurst 377703 non winner [0m 77ch].
