The Shipley Triangle

Map of the Railways around Shipley OK so the Shipley Triangle is not as mysterious or glamourous as the Bermuda Triangle!

The area of track coverage on this trip is through Baildon and into Bradford Foster Square. Then back out to Saltaire before heading back to Leeds.
I initially wanted to do these bits of line and the line through Yarm at the same time. Whilst in the planning it became clear that with my own parameters it was possible. Therefore I hatched this one:

The Plan

(Based on the Winter 2023/2024 Timetable)
Head off early from the Croydon area to St Pancras this leaves me time to get the 1D04 Kings Cross to Leeds train. This arrives in at Leeds at 09:53. The last time I visited Leeds my inbound train was late and I ended up running from one side of the station to the other. No the best start.
Plotting out which way to go I realised that the best was to aim for
2V22 10:33 Leeds to Ilkley train as far as Guiseley. This will probably be a class 331 EMU and arrives in at 10:45. It's here there is a long wait on connection times here with my next train. I may pop out of the station see if I can grab some lunch for on the go later(if not purchased at Leeds).
Next is the new line between Eshott Jn and Bradford Foster Square. Thois is the line formed of a single track through Baildon then when it arrives at the mainline bat Shipley it splits in to a double track all the way into Bradford Foster Square. This will be formed by 2D49 11:35 Ilkley to Bradford Foster Square.
Once at Bradford the same unit forms the next train I need to catch.
2S24 Bradford Foster Square to Skipton. This train will gain the spur between Shipley South Junction and Shopleyu West Junction and I will alight at Saltaire.
The next train is an hour later; 2S28 13:11 Bradford Foster Square to Skipton and again it will follow the same route.

Now at Saltaire and depending on which train I caught from Bradford I have the choice of three trains back to Leeds.

  1. 2H39 12:42 to Leeds - arriving at 13:00
  2. 2H41 13:12 to Leeds - arriving at 13:30
  3. 2H43 13:42 to Leeds - arriving at 14:00

I want to be on a train back towards London before 17:00 in case Leeds United are at home. Thus avoiding crowded trains. therefore the choices are:

  1. 1A33 13:45 to Kings Cross arriving 16:00
  2. 1A32 14:45 to Kings Cross arriving 17:00
  3. 1A39 15:45 to Kings Cross arriving 18:00

Preferably I'd like to be on 1A32 out of the three. This should allow me time to grab a snack, possibly a cider if lucky and a little time on the platforms with the camera.
Does look to be quite be quite an interesting day out.
