B & B B

B & B B?
This is a trip that can have one of two destinations. This is the Borders and Berwick Bash.
One line has escaped for years and one is reletively new.

Destination One: North Berwick

North Berwick lies 21m 73ch rail miles from Edinburgh on the East coast of Scotland.
In the past it was worked by various DMUs and Emus but now it is worked by the new Siemens Class 380s as the line was electrified in the early 1990s.
For me the new bit of line will be from Drem to North Berwick. The line is a single track throughout and from Drem it is only 4m 13ch long ending with a single platform. The train you come in on, you leave on too, not a lot of scope for bashing multiple units.

Destination Two: Tweedbank, the Borders Railway

Opened in September 2015 the Borders Railway has been something of a success.
The railway was originally opened by the North British Railway in 1849 and was known as 'The Waverley Route'. The new route more or less follows the original Waverley Route.

The line stretches from Edinburgh Waverley via Galashiels to Tweedbank and is 35 miles 25 chains long. Journey time along the line is 58 minutes.
When it opened I said to SWMBO that I'd like to ride the line. Of course she's not to interested.THe line is generally a single line beyond Shawfair with passing points south of Gorebridge and at Stow.
The turn aroudn time at Tweedbank is just 7 minutes so like North Berwick; you leave on the one you arrived on.

Either trip can be done in a day so the initial London to Edinburgh trains would be the same.

Let's use the first train as our baseline - the 07:00 from Kings Cross.

Looking at the time the trains leave from Edinburgh to both line it makes it rather difficult to get both lines in and get back to London the same day, but it still possible but it could mean me getting home very late.
