This is another one of those little lines that is generally unnoticed by many and it's mostly used by people using the ferries to the Isle of Man. Welcome to the Heysham Port Line. It's called both Heysham Harbour and Heysham Port but on the station signs it has the Port suffix. From Lancaster it's 8 miles 23 chains to the small station inclouding the reversal at Morecombe. One of the things that draws me to the line is that upon departure from Morecombe the drive has to manually change the points to allow the trains to go to Heysham. Now the line only has one train a day in either direction. The station is really basic woth, as the title says, just the one track and one platform with no ticket office althought there is cover if you use the ferry port terminal. There appears to be no toilets at the station so I hope the ones on the train are working!

It used to have 'Pacers' working the line but appears to be worked by Class 156s now. I'd like to have done the line using a Pacer as they were one of my favourites trains, I know many of your really aren't fans of them but there was something about them but the Class 156s are a good alternative.
It is more than possible to travel up from London and back again with in a day.
There is a clip of the line featgured on Geoff Marshall & Vicki Pipe's romp around the country in All the stations.
There is a clip here from All The Stations.
I think the trip is one for a day where it doesn't matter if it is raining as there is very little need to be outside.
