Navigation of the New Northumberland Line
The Blyth and Tyne Railway opened in the 1850s. The line originally had 19 stations on it and during the 1960s the Beeching Axe (courtesy of Ernest Marples).
At the bottom of this is the lines history (From Wikipedia)
The new (red) and reopened stations will be Northumberland Park (NE) (opening TBA), Seaton Delaval (15 December 2024), Newsham (Early 2025), Blyth Bebside (opening TBA), Bedlington (opening TBA), Ashington (15 December 2024). Technically they are all new stations as they are not opening on the original site.
It will be an early start and I would want to be on the 07:00 from Kings Cross (or 07:30) arriving in to Newcastle at 09:54 (or 10:41). Below is a timetable graph of the train between 10:00 and 15:00 *. The initial intension is to get the first train after I arrive to Newsham then catch a return train to Seaton Delaval. At both stations I want to take some photos of the trains, station and, if possible, see if there is anything left of the old stations.
From Seaton Delaval head back up the line to Ashington and do the same there.
Of course I need to fit in lunch as some point (Wetherspoons is only a 6 minute walk from Ashington station). The line will operate a train every 30 minutes. The journey is about 35 minutes from Newcastle to Ashington (if it stops at Manors but 33 minutes if it does not call there).
Mileages:
Newcastle (0m 00ch), Manors (0m 46ch), Northumberland Par (NE) (6m 34ch), Seaton Delaval (9m 59ch), Newsham (12m 29ch), Blyth Bebside (14m 37ch), Bedlington (15m 53ch), Ashington (18m 50ch).
Returning to London
The journey to London is most three hours so departing at about 16:00 will get me back in to London about 19:00. and about hour after that through my front door - trains permitting.
* The times are taken from Real Time Trains on 04/04/2024 for Saturday 22nd June 2024. These trains currently all (Q) - Runs as required. I suspect this is the probable timetable for the line.
