As you can see from the chart below, 2022 was a good year for mileages.
As you can probably tell I do prefer the summer months. This getting old thing is a killer. I think that this year is the first year where I took clearing lines, both the usual passenger lines and the slightly rarer ones (I'll put a list of the new lines I covered later on).
Condsidering that 2022 had it's fair share of strikes/industrial action I think I did well.
I know a lot of other enthusiasts clear double or triple the number of miles I do but they don't always have family issues, health issues or financial budgets to contend with.
Before I go in to the new lines I cleared let me tell you of th ones I missed out on.
I was booked to go off to Scotland in October but the Scotrail strike stopped that. I had planned to do MerseyRail and see/photo the class 507/508 but due to family and weather that got blocked with a trip on the TfW class 67 trains. There were other little trips I missed out on like a couple on the Anglia area branch lines, a couple of trip to and from Lincoln and couple of branch lines in that area too. I also had plans for a trip to West Yorkshire and pick up a couple of lines there too.
On the 'spotting' side, I did manage to clear all the 357s for sight.
As for the unit 'cops' for haulage that went very well too.So what new lines did I actually clear.
So what of my 2023 plans?
Well I have the postponed Glasgow trip in March. On that one will be hopefully the lines to Wemyss Bay, Gourock, Largs, Adrossen Harbour, Paisley Canal and a distrillery! I have a couple of ideas for trips (some are on the Trip Plans Page). These are mostly big days out but I also have to knock off some little ones like Sutton to Epsom Downs, Hurst Green to Uckfield , a trip on the Spa Valley Railway. Maybe some of the Thames Valley branches or a Tyne & Wear Metro.
I hope also to clear a few classes for sight including the class 222 as I only have one of them to see.
All in all I hope that 2023 will be a good year.
