Whitby Station Iamgaes

I was a bit bored and did not have the time to go do any modelling so I searched on Flickr for "DMU Whitby". A lot of 156s photos have come up but there are some nice ones of Whitby as it was before the bay platforms were turned into the booze aisle (I know this as a couple of purchases were made whilst there in August) in Co-op.

The first generations DMUs seem to be mostly class 101.

I love this image because I really liked the livery back in the day and remember travelling on one of these.

I can't make out the number very well but the class 101s were allocated to Darlington for a while.

Back in time again now.

Whitby with THREE class 101s in situ. The two bay platforms on the right are now the booze aisle in Co-op.

Can you imagine the amount of rail traffic Whitby could have had had these two platforms remained open. BR/Northern Rail could have used them for the local line to Middlesbrough leaving platforms 1 and 2 for the NYMR or even some Transpennine.

Tp prove the 142s came in all colurs:

Another lovely view of the station and a 2-car class 101.

I love Whitby and it's railways. Can you tell ?

I missed this 1986 one:
Whitby Town

None of these photos are mine from that era unfortunately as I was a young child ... all borrowed from flickr.

Discovered this gem on YouTube

The platform and centre road were lifted in the 80s. Left empty until the 2000s when the NYMR acquired the rights to put a line in to the station as can be seen here on the right of the photo.
Ready For The Off

A walk along the line (from a place of safety) in August 2018 saw me down by the old Gas Works and waiting for this:

Seeing a Class 20 'whistling' in to Whitby had me thinking. What other traction had visited Whitby to my knowledge:

If you know of any Diesels that have operated rail tours or normal services into/out of Whitby then please get in touch.

Thanks to Steve Turner:
9th/10th October 1981 31207 and 31318 worked a F&W charter train into Whitby, the train had originated at Plymouth. The details of the tour are on the Six Bells Junction website. regards Steve

Thanks to Duncan McEvoy
Most certainly Thornaby 37s worked the goods which will have ceased by 1984, there was a coal depot here and coasters some quite sizable called regularly berthing in the wharf next to the station. 31s will most certainly have worked these trains too. The last train over the NYMR was 40 hauled, of course when directly connected to York most anything that worked there could go, even A4s working in from London on holiday extras!
